NOTE

We can accommodate groups of up to 25 here in our gardens, woodland trails, and private Community Center, and offer many of our classes, plant walks, and workshops digitally or at your location. Feel free to bring a picnic to enjoy amongst the trees after class, or take a walk through the woods. For the health and safety of all, please reschedule if you or anyone in your household is sick or showing symptoms of illness. Our busy season is May through November, so while we will do our best to accomodate you, it is best to schedule several months in advance! Fridays and weeknights are preferred.

Plant Walks & Outdoor Adventures

  • Nature Therapy & Forest Bathing

Learn to unwind and reconnect with nature through all your senses. Surrounded by ferns, boulders, trees, and mosses, the lush beauty of our woodland trails holds the key to reducing anger, stress, depression, and anxiety. (No materials fee)

  • Plant Walk: A Sensory Garden Tour

Delight all of your senses on a deliciously fun and informative stroll through our gardens as we meet some of the hundreds of culinary, medicinal, and useful herbs we grow here, nibbling, smelling, touching, and observing along the way. Bring a notebook and camera to record your discoveries, as we learn ancient plant lore, how to grow and gather, and tips and tricks for how to use these plant allies for health, wellness, beauty, and joy. (No materials fee)

  • Plant Walk: Eat Your weeds!

Come for a walk through our gardens, field, and acres of woodland trails and habitats, and discover a world of medicinal and edible wild plants, many of them native to this part of the world. Hone your plant identification skills and find out which wild plants can be used for food, medicine, and more. Bring a notebook and camera to record your discoveries, and don’t be surprised if we spot wildlife including butterflies and wild pollinators, ravens, turkeys, turtles, frogs, deer, and even beavers. (No materials fee)

  • Grow Them, Don’t Mow Them -- Weeds FTW!

Available as a Powerpoint presentation. Do you know the value-added possibilities growing for free on your farm? In this inspiring and informative presentation, participants will explore wild native, naturalized, and invasive plants from an herbalist's perspective, with stories, tips, and recipes of how to turn them into food, medicine, liqueurs, and more. Learn the value of going fallow! (No materials fee)


Herbal Workshops

  • Self Care & Chill

Treat yourself to delicious tastes, decadent smells, and plant allies that will teach you to calm your body and mind. You'll mix your own tea blend using adaptogens and nervines (herbs that help you handle stress and support your nervous system) and create a custom aromatherapy blend and healing mantra to ground and support you, no matter what life throws your way. ($8 materials fee)

  • Immune Support for YOU

Having a healthy body is not one-size-fits-all. In this class, we’ll learn the basics of how to use herbs, foods, and self-care strategies to support YOUR immune needs based on lifestyle, blood type, Ayurvedic doshas, epigenetics, and personal stressors. No prior experience necessary, but it is useful to know your blood type. (No materials cost)

  • Infusions for Snoozin’

Herbal Sleep Support Learn how herbs can support a restful night's sleep, including relaxing, de-stressing, and sedative teas, tinctures, infused honeys, and aromatherapy blends. Zzzzz... This class can be run with how-to demonstrations, as a make-and-take class, or as a simple discussion with samples. ($5 materials cost for samples; $8 for take-home tea)

  • Fire Cider

Join the Fire Cider revolution and discover just how deliciously easy it is to keep yourself healthy this cold and flu season! Fire Cider is an age old tonic for immune support, digestion, and energy. In this fun and informative workshop, you’ll learn how to make your own. Bring a notebook and a glass half-pint jar (recycled is great) and leave with a sample!

  • Herbal Chocolate -- A Sensory Culinary Adventure

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll combine the deliciousness of chocolate with the magic of herbs and spices for a sensual experience not to be missed! We’ll learn about Cacao’s ancient history and use, how it grows, then raid the apothecary and gardens for delicious additions to create your own herbal chocolate bark to take home! PDF recipes included ($10 materials fee)

  • Counter Culture -- Fermentation & Prebiotics in the Herbalist's Kitchen

In this hands-on (and hands-in!) class, participants will learn the importance of a healthy gut microbiome for mood, mental health, immunity, digestion, and overall wellness. Many folks of us know how to use bitters and carminatives, but in this class we'll learn how to include easy-to-make probiotic ferments, prebiotic herbal teas, and other gut-healing formulas to the kitchen apothecary. Bring a notebook and a glass half-pint jar (recycled is great) and leave with a sample of our own kraut-chi, recipes, and all the info you need to bring your herbal practice into the "counter culture" revolution! (note: this course focuses on digestion and the enteric nervous system but does not cover bitters, though I can easily incorporate that. Depending on participants' base knowledge, the class can be more or less hands-on, with an optional PowerPoint (2-3 hours). ($5 materials fee)

  • Bone Broths & Herbal Soups

In this hands-on (and hands-in!) class, participants will learn how to make their own bone broth to support healthy guts, joints, thinking, and immunity. You'll leave with recipes, resources for local pasture-raised meats, and delicious samples of our own bone broth and nourishing, herbal soup! (No materials fee)


Kids Classes

  • Herbalism for Kids -- Strategies for Stress, Sleep, & Back to School Success

Being (and having) a kid can be tricky. Luckily, there are lots of safe and delicious herbs, foods, exercises, relaxation tricks, and other easy strategies to add to your parenting and growing up toolbox. (No materials fee)

  • Life Hacks for Teens -- Natural Strategies for Stress, Mood, Sleep, & Study Support

Tired of feeling overwhelmed and stressed out? No matter who you are, being a teenager is TOUGH. Luckily, there are lots of simple tricks and natural remedies like herbs, foods, and vitamins to make it suck a whole lot less! (No materials fee)

  • Fairy House Adventures

Let’s look for fairies! Kids and grownups alike will delight as we go for a fairy quest, gathering materials to make fairy houses, furniture, and gifts for the Wee Folk, to take home or add to Sassafras Grove, the fairy village. ($3 materials fee)

  • Bath Fizzies & Fun!

Bring your friends and come make your very own bath fizzies and bath salts, decorating their labels, and explore the garden and field! ($3 materials fee)

  • Wild Whimsey

From flower arranging to wreathes to holiday decorations, the field, forest, and gardens offer endless ways to bring visual beauty, joy, and peace to your life. Talk with Jessica about available seasonal crafts. ($3-8 materials fee)

  • Little Witches

Want to learn how to be a Green Witch? It’s all about taking care of nature and letting nature take care of you— and it’s magically fun! We’ll learn about the elements, plants, and animals that help us, sing songs, and make a healing tea potion and craft to take home. ($3 materials fee)

  • Gardening for Budding Herbalists

Dig your hands in the earth with us as we create new garden beds, grow and gather delicious herbs to turn into remedies, and learn how to take care of our wonderful plant allies. You’ll even make your own tea to take home! (No materials fee)

  • Wildcrafting for Budding Herbalists

A good herbalist knows which wild plants will fill your belly and which ones will make you feel better. Let’s visit forest and field to meet some new plant friends! Learn how to gather and use wild plants for healing and to make great teas and trail nibbles. You’ll even take some home with you. Yum! (No materials fee)

  • Dreamtime for Budding Herbalists

Create your very own relaxing tea, aromatherapy blend, and soothing dream pillow to take home, and learn some tricks and tips to help you unwind and relax. ($8 materials fee)


Botanical Barcraft

  • Cocktails in the Garden

    In this fun BYOB class, we’ll visit the garden for fresh herbs, and Jessica will put her bartending certificate to good use by teaching you how to muddle, shake, stir, and blend them into one-of-a-kind delicious cocktails, complete with additions from her own personal reserve! ($8 materials fee, base alcohol not included)

  • Grow Your Own Gin

    Use organic and wildcrafted botanicals to make your own custom flavored gin. We'll discuss top notes, base notes, and all the flavors in between, as well as the best ways to bring about the subtle flavor bouquet you prefer. All ingredients (except alcohol) provided. Please bring a small bottle of vodka to use and 2 recycled jars to take home your unique libations! PDF recipes included. ($5 materials fee)

  • The Botanical Bartender

    This 3-part course can be taken as a full day course or individual classes. Time and materials fees depend on whether class is run as a demonstration with samples or a make-and take class; talk to Jessica about your preferences.

  • The Bitter Draught: In this delicious class, we’ll learn how to make two of the most important elements to many a classic cocktail: bitters and infused syrups.
  • Infuse your Booze: In this seasonally changing class, we turn to the garden and apothecary for herbs, spices, fruits, and maybe even vegetables to turn liquor into liqueurs…. yum! (see below for two sample classes)
  • Finishing touches: Elevate your barcraft with garnishes and special twists like cocktail cherries, finishing sugars, and spiced salts.
  • Infuse Your Booze -- Wild Syrups and Sparklers

    Come explore the flavors of home-grown herbs blended with local honey, and get to know the health benefits of some of New Hampshire’s home-grown and wild fruits. Take home original recipes, three different infusions for your home bar, and the knowhow to transform the flavors of New England into your own signature sodas and sparkling cocktails. Please bring a small bottle of vodka to use and 2 recycled jars to take home your unique libations! PDF recipes included. (Note: this class is only available Summer-Autumn; check with Jessica for what’s in season). ($5 materials fee)

  • Infuse Your Booze in Winter -- Holiday Drinks

    Learn the history of Mulled Wine (aka Glögg) and make your own mulling spices, as well as 2 decadent seasonal favorites: Cardamom-Fig Vodka and Apple-Spiced Bourbon. All ingredients (except alcohol) provided. Please bring a small bottle of vodka or bourbon to use and 2 recycled jars to take home your unique libations! PDF recipes included. ($5 materials fee)

  • Herbal Spa

    Leave the chemicals behind and nourish your skin organically from tip to toe! Explore the simple elegance of using pure, clean ingredients to create your own personalized beauty protocols and products so you can feel confident, pampered, and absolutely radiant! Please bring a wash cloth, large towel and large bowl to class (This course is broken into 3 sessions that can be offered separately or combined into one day-long luxurious intensive.)

  • Bésame Mucho: We’ll visit the garden to pick our own herbs, then learn to combine them to make your own lip exfoliants and tinted, flavored lip balms with all natural ingredients. 1 hour ($5 materials fee)
  • Flower Fairy Facials: Whether your skin is sensitive, blemish-prone, dry, mature, or a combination of the above, this class has you covered with our wildcrafted and homegrown herbal & CBD treatments. We’ll start with gentle exfoliants and masques, then open our pores with soothing steams, tighten with natural toners, and finish with our very own Mama’s Kiss facial serum. Season permitting, we may go for stroll to meet some of the plants that make our facial remedies! 2 hours. ($8 materials fee)
  • Herbal Happy Feet: Pamper your hard-working feet with your own personalized hand-blended Herbal Foot Bath, invigorating ocean exfoliation treatment, and soothe and smooth with our own Mama’s Kiss Cannabis salve or oil, all with natural, nourishing ingredients. Jessica will also teach you how to do a restorative self-massage for tight and tired feet. 1 hour. ($5 materials fee)

Cannabis

  • Herbal Allies -- The Green Friends of Mama’s Kiss Cannabis

Come meet some of the wonderful local, wild, and organic plants that go into each jar of our pain salve, and see which ones you may already have growing in your own backyard! We'll smell, see, and touch these healing herbs, try them in our famous pain salve, and learn how to grow and gather many of them yourself for your own home medicine chest. (No materials cost)

  • More than Doobies for Cannabis Newbies

Do you live in a state with legal cannabis, and want to learn how to prepare your own edibles, tinctures, oils, and herbal cigarettes? Want to get creative with CBD oil? Learn how to do all of this and more, from a kitchen witch and herbalist! This class can be offered as a discussion, PowerPoint, or demonstration, but because we are in NH, only CBD flower can be used (no THC). (Materials cost varies depending on presentation style and projects.)

  • Demystifying Cannabis -- CBD 101

For over 10,000 years, cannabis has a long and storied history as one of humanity's’ most beloved, sacred, and valued herbs, despite spending the past 80 years as an outlaw. Jessica will happily answer all your questions and teach you about the endocannabinoid system and some of her favorite ways to use cannabis for safe, legal, effective, and ethical non-addictive pain relief and whole-body wellness. Try samples of our pain salve, facial serum, and oil, and leave relaxed and well-informed. (No materials cost)

  • Cannabis & Cacao -- Love Potions from the Herbalist’s Kitchen

In this deliciously decadent adventure come delight your senses, create seductive recipes, and learn how to turn different forms of chocolate and (legal) cannabis into relaxing, stimulating, and inspiring love potions! We’ll create a host of indulgences like Heady Love Truffles, Chocolate CBD Body Paint, and Ganjaliscious Lubricant, and participants will leave with recipes, samples (enough to share!), and a full-size bottle of Mama’s Kiss Cannabis CBD Oil (made in-house) to experiment with at home! ($40 per person materials fee, includes all materials and CBD oil.)


Aromatherapy

  • Earthly Aromatics -- Think Outside the Bottle

    While essential oils are all the rage, overuse of these incredibly concentrated botanicals has a huge environmental footprint and can lead to endocrine disruption and sensitivities. In this three-part course, we’ll explore ancient aromatic techniques from ritual incenses to distilled hydrosols and infused perfumes. Come away with the knowledge to create your own gorgeous fragrances from nature! (This course is broken into 3 two-hour sessions that can be offered separately or combined into one day-long intensive.)

  • Smokes & Incense

    Explore the many sensual and sacred ways of mixing and burning herbs, spices, and other botanicals. We will discuss ways that people have burned plants ceremonially throughout the world both past and present, and create our own herbal smoke bundles and incense to take home ($5 materials fee)

  • Homemade Hydrosols

    Discover how to create your own gentle and effective hydrosols right in your kitchen! In this workshop, we’ll explore the art and science of distilling your own floral waters for various skin types using fresh and dried herbs. A must-try class for beginning herbalists! ($5 materials fee)

  • Infused Perfumes

    From infused oils to alcohols, there are as many tricks to making your own scents from nature as there are plants! Come learn the basics of making your own natural perfumes and colognes, both with and without essential oils, and come away with the knowledge to start creating your very own botanical scents! ($10 materials fee)
